JOIN THE SCHOOL OVERCROWDING DISCUSSION FEBRUARY 21, 2012

February 13th, 2012 Posted in News

To further encourage community involvement in the elementary school overcrowding process, the four Civic Associations nearest to the Reed School (Tara Leeway Heights, Leeway Overlee, Highland Park Overlee Knolls and Westover Village) will be co-hosting an additional meeting with Arlington County Planner, Dr. Alison Denton the evening of Tuesday Feb 21st at 7pm in the Childrens School at the Reed Westover site

Here is some additional information about school overcrowding and possible changes to the Reed Westover site:

1 —- A new option would place a second story on Reed school, and add a significant addition to the school that would allow it to function as a full size elementary school (~600 students). You can review the new option in the APS presentation on capacity through this link – see pages 10 and 11 for diagrams on the new Reed option:

2 —- On Feb 8th, the Arlington School Board was briefed on a wide range of options for addressing the growing shortfall in elementary school space across the County. High among those options is construction of a new elementary school on the Reed site adjacent to Westover. The PowerPoint presentation released to the School Board is available at http://www.boarddocs.com/vsba/arlington/Board.nsf/files/8RAT8C761BEE/%24file/Capacity%20presentation%20020812.pdf. Dr Alison Denton, a facility planner for APS, will give a public recap of the Board’s working session this coming Wednesday, Feb 15th at 7pm at Kenmore Middle School, 200 S. Carlin Springs Rd., Arlington, VA 22204.
