Consideration Given to Study Sidewalks on 1500 Block of Harrison Street
April 16th, 2009 Posted in NewsRecently you received a letter and for those of you who attended recent CA board meetings and/or reviewed the meetings’ minutes on the website; you recognize that the Neighborhood Conservation Advisory Committee (NCAC) alerted the Civic Association (CA) that NCAC policy is not supportive of sidewalk projects which are not contiguous. Therefore, the CA Board voted to proceed with a study of only the 18/1900 block sidewalks removing the 1500 block.
The NCAC has reconsidered proceeding with including studying sidewalks on the 1500 and 1800/1900 blocks together given the connection between the 1500 block of N Harrison Street and the NCAC project on N Inglewood and 15th St which will begin construction this summer.
NCAC procedures require the CA Board to reaffirm its earlier decision that Harrison St. sidewalks are the civic association’s #1 project. At the April 20 CA Board meeting, the CA board will consider whether the 18/1900 block project continues to be the civic association’s #1 NCAC project and will consider adding the 1500 block back into the project proposal.
Board approval does not mean that a sidewalk will be constructed on the 1500 block as it does not mean that a sidewalk will be constructed on the 18/1900 block.
It only means that Arlington County will develop a preliminary design for sidewalks and the residents of the 1500 and 18/1900 blocks will consider these designs, offer their suggestions and then vote as to whether to proceed with the NCAC project. If the residents approve proceeding, then the project will be considered for funding with all other NCAC citizen approved projects.
