Glebe Elementary School Reading Garden

February 27th, 2009 Posted in News

Glebe Elementary School is about to embark on a very exciting project called the Glebe Reading Garden. It has been in the planning stages since Fall 2008 and is about to break grounds with its first work party late March 2009.

Whether you have past alumni or future alumni, you may be interested in learning about this project. The garden will be on school grounds, just outside the library, and will be accessible and open not only to the Glebe community but to the surrounding neighbhorhoods. The garden has been designed to be an outdoor classroom as well as a demonstration garden that incorporates native plants, rain water harvesting, and rain garden as garden elements.

If you’d like to learn more about the project you can view the powerpoint presentation at http://readinggarden.glebeschool.com/. You will see that the garden has been planned to last several generations. Much energy, time and effort is going into this project, in order to build a garden that becomes an asset to Glebe and the surrounding community for years to come…rather than a burden in a few years.

The garden is in its fundraising stage. We are hoping to raise $10k for the project. The cost estimate for the project is also posted on the web page.

There is much opportunity for community involvement and contribution. The Glebe Reading Garden Committee is looking for monetary donations as well as volunteer labor to make the plans for the garden become reality.

Please contact Maureen Hamilton (maureen.hamilton@gmail.com) for more information or if you would like to volunteer your time or donate to the cause.
