UPDATE from Captain Herbstreit: “I don’t have a lookout for any possible suspects but I’ll tell you what I do know. The burglaries have ranged North to South basically from Washington Blvd – Lee Hwy, and East to West from Kensington Street – Powhatan Street. Except one which was across the street from Yorktown HS this past Saturday. There have been six break-ins since April 25th. All similar, daytime, entry through back door, or window, by breaking something, taking usually a digital camera and lesser valued jewelry. No one has seen anyone of note at all. All of the houses are reasonably close to a bicycle/hiking path.”

Capt Herbstreit, the first district police commander, reports another burglary in our neighborhood which is believed to be related to the series of burglaries recently reported.
o Breaking & Entry, 5/23/2007, 2200 Block of N. Powhatan St. Between the hours of 0830 hrs and 1743 hrs on 5/23/07, someone gained access to a home by forcing open a side door to the home and took jewelry. At this time there is no witness or suspect description.

What can we do?
1. Detective Estes is the assigned investigator and he would like anyone who may have seen someone or notice suspicious activity at the above listed location to give him call. He can be reached at 703.228.4180.
2. Immediately report suspicious persons to the police (703-558-2222).
3. Watch out for your neighbor’s home(s) and report unusual activity such as someone cutting through backyards.
4. If your home has an alarm system, be sure to use it during the daytime.
5. Not everyone is on the Tara Leeway email service or reviews the webpage regularly. Please share this information with your neighbors. The Dayshift Patrol officers and First District Team officers are conducting additional patrols but the more people looking for suspicious persons in your neighborhood the better our chances are in apprehending the suspect(s).
