Radio Tower at GM and Lee – your chance to be involved
March 3rd, 2007 Posted in News YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO RESOLVE
RADIO TRANSMISSION INTERFERENCE
FROM THE TOWER AT GEORGE MASON AND LEE
We have three towers which transmit signals in our neighborhood: the WETA tower adjacent to Big Walnut park; the tower on the “ATT” site
along Lee Highway between Harrison and George Mason; and the tall thin
tower held up by support wires at George Mason and Lee next to the Walker
Whitman clinic and the Bank of America.
Here we are only discussing the tall thin tower. The owners of this tower
are seeking to build a new tower and remove the existing tower. To do so the
owner’s need a use permit from Arlington’s County Board. The owners have
discussed this with the 4 neighboring civic associations for about the past 6
months. The most significant issue addressed has been interference from the
tower affecting the local residents.
Below is a list of the radio stations on the tower and contact information.
If you have interference from these radio stations, please contact the radio
stations directly and ask them to correct the interference problems. Some
examples of interference has been hearing the radio stations from TV’s and other
electronic devices, and interference from such things as remotes in
autos.
When you contact the radio station or the FCC, please send a copy of your
correspondence to the Tara Leeway civic association. Let us know whether the
issue was resolved and the quality of the interaction. This is very important.
We have lots of anecdotal comments about interference and previously frustrated
attempts to get corrective action.
In April 2007 the tower owner will go to the County Board for a use permit
to allow them to build the new tower. Now is the one best time to work to see
that interference issues are addressed. It is also the best time for the civic
association to work with the tower owners to assure that the interests of all
are represented.
In summary, if you have an interference problem, this is the best time to
seek resolution. It is also the best time for your civic associations to work
with the owners to get issues resolved. So please contact the below contact
points now and keep us informed so we may go from anecdotal comments to specific
problem issues.
