Reed/Westover – Comments Requested on New Design Scheme
December 22nd, 2006 Posted in News In the most recent Tara Leeway newsletter there were drawings of the Westover library/ school design. Last week at the Building Level Planning Committee (BLPC) the project architects presented another two design concepts. There were several comments from the BLPC including:-Scheme “C” (a new design) is a good starting point
-Frame and emphasize 1938 structure as central feature of front plaza
-Architecture should be more traditional than scheme C and compatible with 1938 building, with many direct references to its proportions, materials, and scale
-Bright colors may look “dated” very quickly
-Scheme “A” (the more traditional design in the newsletter) brick color is preferred
-Feeling of beautiful windows in 1938 building should carry through design
-Reduce height of brick retaining wall along McKinley St sidewalk
The project architects have developed a new design based on the above comments. Links below will open sketches of the new scheme. The design team is eager to hear your comments. However, comments MUST be received by December 29 in order to maintain the project schedule. Please send your comments to Vaughan Olbrys at EOlbrys@arlington.k12.va.us
