Arlington County Police host FREE auto theft deterrent event
January 1st, 2006 Posted in Police NoticesOn Saturday, April 22, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Arlington County Police Department will hold a FREE anti-car theft event at Lubber Run Community Center, 300 N. Park Dr. At the event, car owners can have their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) etched into their windows–a quick, simple process that can reduce the chances of auto theft.VIN etching does not affect the appearance of the vehicle. Trained etchers chemically engrave the VIN onto the main windows of the vehicle in inconspicuous locations. Some insurance companies offer a discount on theft insurance to owners of VIN-etched vehicles.
A VIN-etched vehicle is harder to get rid of, and thus is less attractive to car thieves. VIN etching also virtually eliminates any potential profit professional thieves might get from selling windows and windshields for parts via chop shops.
This event is being provided free of charge by the Arlington County Police Department and Virginia Help Eliminate Auto Theft (HEAT).
